movies part 16: the ninth gate

i watched this with ariel after american splendor. it's long! about 2 hours and 15 minutes. after about an hour, i was buzzed from the two beers i drank (so past my prime), and i started playing literati*, so i stopped paying attention. the movie was pretty good up until then, i just really wanted to play more literati. i plan on watching it the whole way through at some point. that johnny depp is one sexy devil (my use of the word devil is not some sort of hint about the movie).

um, the movie is about rare book inspector/dealer/collector dean corso, who is hired by a wealthy book collector to authenticate his own version of "the nine gates of something something," a book that rumors say can summon the devil.
