wwe smackdown + abortion discussion =

after watching tv for one hour, my thoughts:

1) pro wrestling is undeniably fun to watch on tv. i watched the whole 1 hour smackdown on upn. i couldn't stop! i don't know why. honestly, the moves they do, although fake, are impressive from an athletic perspective. i think so, anyway.

2) commercials for games are getting better and better. the cg on xmen legends and mortal kombat deception make me want them so badly. pretty. shiny. i must have them. and the commercial for gta: san andreas is not bad either. welcome to the jungle always a good thing. and the shot of the dude struttin along with a rocket launcher on his shoulder. i'm excited about simply the halo 2 commercial, not even the game.

3) i also have trouble turning away from fear factor. it's gotta be the girls, because there is no other reason to watch that show. oh man, a week ago or so i watched an entire episode of laguna beach because there are pretty girls on that show too. wow is that show awful.

4) south park is incredible. i watched the wacky molestation adventure. so creepy. the music. and the kindergarteners!!!

5) i'm thinking a lot about this extremely polite and political discussion i'm having with greg. it turns out abortion is the only issue that matters for him. which is valid. the problem is, i can't change somebody's mind about abortion. i don't think anyone can be swayed one way or the other. it's coded in at birth, or with childhood, or something, and once a person's mind is made his mind is made. i have a whole lot more i could say on the subject of abortion, and i figure in addition i might as well get my facts straight and cite all the reasons that kerry is the better candidate. i'm letting the whole abortion issue gestate in my brain, i'll get it out later. as for why kerry is better, does anyone want to help? or abortion too. i'll let anyone log in and post what they think. let me know if you want that and i'll create a user or however it works, that can blog on here.

I'm happy to plug two of aross' efforts, www.crossfiah.com and www.theregular.org.

The former is a blog-style debate between andy ross and d(ave?) riches, two guys who played in a band with christian our freshman year (their senior year). andy does well in his role as commie pinko leftist for the site, while driches is as odious as expected of any staunch republican.

the second site, the regular, is an almost-real-time slashdot-style political news site. tons of updates throughout the day, always a good linkfest. the other guys running that site are also active at www.downhillbattle.org, which in my little internet world is like aross partying with mick jagger.

I will say, though, that greg had no need to call in his minions to represent his views-- there's something to be said about that, and there's a good chance it involves honor points. further educate yourself? good thing. answering by proxy? what are you, guinevere to goy's lancelot?

Hi Eric,

I don't have much time, so here is a short comment.

I wanted to clarify that abortion is not the only issue that matters to me. I am very much concerned about a host of other issues. It is just that in my mind, those issues become secondary to that of abortion because of the reasons I gave earlier.

That is probably what you meant, but I just wanted to make it clear.

Thanks,
Greg

abortion discussion? hrm. without going off on some original rant of my own (that would be too easy on this topic), i'll offer you some interesting reading.
here's one that takes an approach used by a lot of Christian anti-abortionists and uses it for the pro-choice side. In other words, this dude is offering biblical evidence that abortion is okay. Could be written better or presented better, but I felt like it was a unique enough way to argue for the pro-choice camp to make it worth passing on : http://www.elroy.com/ehr/abortion.html

and here's one that makes the smart distinction between social and physical dependence. not so much new info as a good presentation of old stuff. unlike the bible one, which is some interesting info i didn't know about but not as smooth of a read. http://www.elroy.com/ehr/abortionanswers.html

also. pro-wrestling is undeniably fun to watch IN PERSON. disco machine, rocking my world.
